Not having enough time to write, and also the self-promotion and all the social networking that needs to be done.
Can you give us a short synopsis of The Thinking?
This novella follows along from The Greying, which is the first book. In the first book Meah, our 13 year old protagonist, finds out why she has come to Landland, and also that she is not the magical thinking girl that everyone thinks she is. But, she does have some special powers which are provided by her Mother’s book of colours. Meah can make things happen: all she has to do is paint pictures.
Meah sets out to save Landland from the onslaught of the greying which threatens to enshroud all the lands in mist. Her Aunty Beryl becomes the evil Queen Berilbog who commands the Legions of the Firbog. Meah joins forces with the Landland armies to help push back the Queen her Firbog, and the greying.
After some success, the allies plans are foiled as Landland itself begins to write its own story. Meah journeys on to The Chain of Mountains to fight the Trolls and save Bigriver from drying up. She tries to return home with her father, The Biggo, but is drawn back to Landland. All is in turmoil as the novella’s metafictional elements kick in, and Meah gives up her free will to follow the story. Can Meah and The Biggo finally defeat Aunty Beryl and her Firbog, or will Landland itself triumph in the end?
What inspired you to write this book?
When I initially began to write the series, I wanted to produce a pastiche of a fantasy quest novel. By that, I mean I wanted it to have all of the right elements that can be found within the genre. It also includes some parody as well. I guess, in a way, I was making fun of the genre. However, I do like a good fantasy quest tale, so I decided to incorporate some Celtic myth and legend in the story and to also make it a metafictional tale (that’s writing about writing), or a story that begins to reflect upon itself. So you will see myth & legend, and faerie tales underpinning most of the first novella; not so much in the second book. So, to answer the question, you can say that I was inspired by my love of Celtic myth and legend, faerie tales, and literary theory.
How many hours per day do you spend on writing?
Well, I don’t write every day; only when I’m in the middle of something. I like to research a lot and do some reading. This gives me the inspiration to continue on the writing journey. I do work full time in another job, so if I was able to give this away, then hey, I’d be writing every day.

What are you working on now?
It's mostly promotional stuff, however, I am working on some instructional notes for The Landland Chronicles. These will be in line with the Core Curriculum in the USA. So teachers will be able to download the notes to use if they choose to study The Landland Chronicles in the classroom.
Title: The Thinking (The Landland Chronicles #2)
Author: Dallas Sutherland
Genre: Middle Grade Fantasy
LANDLAND BECOMES ITS OWN SAVIOUR …
The Greying snakes across Bigriver towards Landland … all the lands are in turmoil. Meah combines her power of thinking with the magical Book of Colours, and joins the Bigriverland army to fight the horrid Firbog. Faith, Hope, and Charity, the white many-headed-winged-thing, returns. Auntie Beryl has become the evil Queen Berilbog– she must be stopped. Many-headed-winged-things soar high over battle-fields, three-humped-beasts-of-war go on the rampage, and, from out of the mists of the greying, slithering Homunculi goad them on.
Meah’s magical plans are not what Landland needs– Firbog hordes swarm across a dried up Bigriver into Landland, cutting their way through The Scented Forest, all the way up to the tip of Mount Beacon.
Chaos reigns supreme, Landland writes its own story … but the story is all wrong. Meah looks for a way to escape. Will she find her father, The Biggo, again? Can they win their way home– should they leave Landland and all their friends in the clutches of Auntie Beryl, the Grey Lady?
