What’s the hardest part of being an author?
Making enough time to write a book, edit it, and then promote it. Each step of the process is very time consuming and I still have a day job.
Can you give us a short synopsis of THE KISS OF A ROSE?
The Kiss of a Rose is a ghost story about a woman who is given a second chance at life if she can save a politician from his ambitions. Stephen is a good man who is on the wrong path. As Rose shows him her story he finds himself falling in love with a woman who has been dead for over 100 years.
What inspired you to write this book?
I lot of my inspiration comes from music. I was listening to the radio when Kissed by a Rose by Seal came on. The chorus talks about being kissed by a rose on a grave. I had a vision of an old gravestone with snow piled against it and a blood red rose nestled at its base. The rest of the story developed from there.
How many hours per day do you spend writing?
The number of hours varies depending on how fast I get my daily word count finished. Sometimes I have a chapter completely outlined and I can finish writing it quickly. Other times the words don’t flow as easily and it takes longer. My one rule is that I cannot go to bed until I have finished my daily word count.
Name your top five favorite books.

J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings
Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander Series
Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files Series
Kim Harrison’s Hallow Series
Rebecca Zanetti’s Dark Protector Series

A DISTANT PAST
In 1882, Rose Van Buren loved the wrong man and paid for it with her life. Now, more than a century later, the angel Gabriel has granted her another shot at living. In exchange, she must convince a smart, handsome, up-and-coming lawyer to set aside his lofty ambitions.
A FUTURE PRESENT
Stephen Winship is headed straight for the governor’s chair. He has a brilliant career, solid allies, and a seemingly perfect girlfriend. But night after night he finds himself dreaming of a heavenly beauty, a luminous but long-dead girl. Like some altered Ghost of Christmas Past, she shows him her own tragic tale in order to “save him.” And he’s beginning to see Rose is risking her heart as much as baring her soul. Yet falling for her will cost him everything—and open him up to a happiness he never imagined.
Augustina Van Hoven resides in the Pacific Northwest with her husband, two dogs and three cats. She is an avid reader of romance, science fiction and fantasy. When she’s not writing she likes to work in her garden or in the winter months crochet and knit on her knitting machines.
