What is the hardest part of being an author?
The writing process is a very solitary and isolated one, so you're never really sure how your work will be received, by others, until you see/hear the reaction from your first reader.
Can you give us a short synopsis of Pearls and Tools of Wisdom for Parents and Children?
Pearls and Tools of Wisdom is a picture book designed to get parents and kids actively talking with one another about the important aspects of wisdom, character development, and emotional resiliency. The important message from the book is if we want to the next generation to be wise, we must actively engage them in learning and studying how to gain wisdom.
What inspired you to write this book?
The most amazing aspect of the book is that it was an absolute gift from God, literally. One day, during spring 2014, in the wee hours of the morning, I was awakened with a flood of ideas for a children's book. My thoughts were racing so furiously that I decided to write it down. What I wrote would ultimately become the topics for each chapter of the book now known as Pearls and Tools of Wisdom for Parents & Children.
How many hours per day do you spend on writing?
Structure, structure, structure... I love structure! Therefore, I use the mantra of slow and steady wins the race, and carve out a dedicated 2-3 hours of writing time on a weekly basis.
Name your top five favourite books.
Goose Goofs Off by Jacquelyn Reinach (children's book from the Sweet Pickles book collection of the 1970's)
Little Miss Bossy by Roger Hargreaves (children's book from the Little Miss book collection of the 1970's)
Love Letters from God by Glenys Nellist
Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
What I Know For Sure by Oprah Winfrey
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on a few projects. The first being my memoir, which chronicles my personal struggles with depression and anxiety, and my journey to follow the adage: "physician, heal thy self". The second project is a series of children's book that will explore the ideas of multiculturalism and resiliency.
