Q: What’s the hardest part of being an author?
Rewrites! Writing the first draft of a novel is easy. It’s the second, third, and fourth drafts that are difficult for me. I want to get it right, but I also want move on. Unfortunately, my first book I did not get it right: I didn’t spend enough time finding the best editor and I published with many mistakes. Once you make mistakes, you can’t take them back. Whoever finds your book then, will most likely never risk investing time in your next
one.Q: Can you give a short synopsis of your book?
The crap hits the fan after a massive solar storm knocks out power and brings our world back to a proverbial new Stone Age. This is the story about different groups of people who band together in community to survive the desolation of the new world.
What inspired you to write this?
I read an article about what big solar storms could do to our technology, and about a giant one that actually occurred in 1859, when we were in our technological infancy. When I read that we have as much as a 15% chance of this very thing occurring again within 10 years, I thought, “Not only is this terrifying, but it would make a great book!” Because I couldn’t find that book, I wrote Stone Age. DESOLATION is the sequel.
Q: How many hours per day do you spend writing?
Every day is a little different, but I probably average two per day, starting at about 5:30AM, usually after one of our cats woke me up to remind me that it was time for her feeding. Maybe it shouldn’t be a surprise that I include some violence in my stories.
Q: What are you working now?
Three primary projects: A novel set within the Stone Age world, but taking place in Europe; a couple of great short stories also set in the Stone Age World; and finally a conclusion to the Stone Age Series, titled Cicada, which will be out this summer. My keyboard should be on fire long before the warm weather returns.

Hello lovers of apocalyptic fiction!
I devour the same books I enjoy writing: science fiction, but especially anything apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic or dystopian. I love stories about regular people being put into extra ordinary circumstances, and having to rely on their own cunning and that of others to survive.
Stone Age & DESOLATION are that kind of story. They’re fast moving, have some regular and amazing characters who must make life changing decisions, all while the world is experiencing an apocalypse unlike anything imagined.
When not writing fiction, my wife and I split time between Tucson, Arizona and the sunny beaches of Mexico. I also write for a few blogs, and I still write articles to assist small business owners for one of the companies I founded, SmallBiZ.com.
