I’ve given different answers to this question before, but I think the hardest part is hands down, the rejection. People don’t realize how much time and effort it takes to write a book. It can take up to ten years to complete a novel. Then, after you write it, it might never be published or it might never sell well. It’s so discouraging sometimes to put all of yourself into something only to see it flop or people treat it like its worthless. It happens to every writer and you still have to get up, dust yourself off, and try again with another novel afterwards.
Can you give us a short synopsis of Bright's Passion?
It’s the first book in a trilogy about the god of the sun, Bright, and the god of the moon, Night, and how they both fall in love with a witch named Adonya.
What inspired you to write this book?
Facebook inspired me. I kept seeing these pictures talking about a romance between the sun and the moon. How the sun loves the moon so much that it chases it across the sky, but it only catches it on rare occasions. How, on those days, their love is so beautiful that everyone stares at the two of them together and the eclipse they create. I became obsessed with the idea of a sun god falling in love with a woman trapped in the darkness after awhile because of that and that’s a big part of my god of light trilogy.
How many hours per day do you spend writing?
It varies. I’ve spent as many as twenty hours and as few as no hours. I usually try to consistently write, at least a little bit, every day. Sometimes I get sick or something and I can’t write at all, but it’s such a habit for me that it’s difficult for me not to work on my writing, at least a little bit, every day.
The day I am filling this out, for instance, is my birthday. I told myself I was going to relax today and not do anything that has to do with writing or marketing and yet here I am.
Name your top five favorite books.
These aren’t in any particular order, but here’s my list right now.
- Jane Eyre By Charlotte Bronte
- Frankenstein By Mary Shelley
- Fat (Labels) By Sara Wylde
- Harry Potter And The Deathly Hollows
- The Phantom Tollbooth By Norton Juster
What are you working on now?
I’m working on finishing the God Of Light Trilogy. Bright’s Passion is book #1 and available for free, Night’s Lust is book #2 and available for $2.99, and Star’s Heat is book #3, the one I am working on right now. I’m also working on a young adult fantasy novel about necromancers called Spirit Speaker.
Title: Bright’s Passion
Author: E.B. Black
Genre: Fantasy Romance
Bright wishes he wasn’t the god of the suns.
Every day is the same: he makes the suns rise and then they set. He looks down at humanity’s corruption. He watches wars, people starving, and thieves stealing.
He can’t help. Every time he tries, the humans take something from him. They’ve destroyed his family and he has no doubt that they’d like to destroy him, too.
Adonya is a raven-haired witch with powers that make her as close to a goddess as a human can be. He’s wondered what it was like to be with a woman, but all the goddesses are dead.
He can feel it when he touches her–she’s as dangerous as all the rest of the humans. Can the power of love join their races together? Or will one of them wind up dead in the end?
E.B. Black is the annoying author who lives in the head of a nerdy housewife named Elizabeth. Elizabeth tries to live out her days by walking her dog, spending time with her husband, doing housework, and watching television, but E.B. Black makes her drop everything to type out weird fantasy stories. Elizabeth is asking anyone who read this to please send help.
