I think, for me, the hardest part of being a writer is forcing myself to actually sit down and write. I mean, at any given time I have 4 different stories running through my head. I walk around in what a few of my coworkers have called “Niki world” but when it comes to sitting down and actually putting the words to paper, my brain chooses that exact moment to start pondering the tough questions of life. Questions like: “How many tomatoes does it take to make a whole bottle of ketchup?” and “Why do they call the fluffy stuff in candy bars nougat?”
Can you give us a short synopsis of Abduction?
Abduction is the story of a woman who was on a fast track to nowhere. She is kidnapped over a case of mistaken identity and soon finds out that the old adage about not being able to judge a book by its cover is true. She makes a deal in which she profits immensely from but then realizes that some things are so much more important than monetary gain.
What inspired you to write this book?
This question has so many answers because it couldn’t be related to any one single thing. But I think the biggest inspiration was a group of internet strangers. It was originally just meant to be a short story for a group of women on an internet forum. Then it became more. Every encouraging word was an inspiration to keep it going. Every brainstorming session I had with my best friend was inspiration. Although, all they consisted of was her throwing a bunch of suggestions my way and me saying “Oh I like all your suggestions but I’m not using any of them, Instead I’m doing this.” My husband reminding me that I am good enough was an inspiration. But I doubt this book would even exist had it not been for internet strangers.
How many hours per day do you spend writing?
Not enough. I know someone who has a goal of 2000 words per day and I’m lucky if I can hold myself to 2000 a week. When I’m feeling especially creative I’ve been known to write 3 chapters in one sitting.
Name your top five favourite books?
My lists are never ending. The books I reread the most are Pride and Predjudice, Harry Potter, Mad World books by Christine Zolendz, Too Far series by Abbi Glines, and….. I can’t list anymore because you only asked for 5 and if I list the 5th one then that means I’m excluding at least 10 other books and that just wouldn’t be fair. In short, I am an equal opportunist reader. I don’t even exclude product labels.
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on Stefan’s story. He is a secondary character in Abduction and I have been looking forward to writing about him since introducing him into Abduction. Of course, Audrey and Liam will be making brief cameos in his book.
